Femshep

How I feel about this character

I think it’s safe to say I adore femShep.  Going off of what we know is canon for all femSheps, her strength really is something to look up to.  Sure, everyone has different femShepards, but the one universal thing is that they’re a huge badass woman.  I’m pretty damn sure that, in the face of so much, I’d never last.  It takes a hell of a lot of will to stand for your beliefs in the face of so many closing their eyes and covering their ears to the truth.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Again, taking this ask as a femShep overall, then I’d say I ship her with pretty much anyone.  Individually, I would ship a femShep with certain characters, but I think the way in which someone plays can determine the right fit.  Do I have preferences?  Of course, but we all know who that is.  😉

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Since I tend to always ship Garrus and my own femShep, I’ll go with the next character I’d choose.  I may be prejudiced, but my favorite non-romantic partner to pair femShep with is Wrex.  The development between them is just so fun because you can see how Shepard has a hand in giving Wrex the crazy idea to get out there and try to wrangle his people with the same goal of overcoming their violent nature and making their lives worth something.  I don’t think that Wrex’s opinions of his people would have ever changed if not for the talks with and fights alongside Shepard.  Then he is so happy to see you survived in 2, then coming to you with the last hope for his people and trusting you with it?  That all just comes to a head when he calls you a sister.  Plus, I won’t say it wasn’t funny as hell to have Wrex around in the Citadel DLC.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Hm… this one is a bit more difficult to answer given that most of what we all think about femShep is based on player choices.  Just going off of what the games give us that we can’t change, Shepard is pretty damn bland and emotionless.  Players make Shepard who they are with choices, so I can’t really say something I have an opinion on concerning the game Shepards beyond a gripe about a trend in the games.  I know they have been written to make the player make their choices without consequence, but I really hated how, especially in 2, Shepard ended up being the final word in everyone’s own loyalty missions.  I only ever saw one crewmember’s loyalty mission actually have a consequence based on their own personality, that being Zaeed’s.  He reads as an actual person who disagrees and needs some convincing to let Vido go (for now, he actually says).  Many characters don’t really bother me so much as my biggest peeve, Garrus’ loyalty mission.  While he’d remain your friend, I’m sure, the simple ‘I don’t want to talk about it’ when you let Sidonis go has always bugged me.  Writers all have their own explanation, but the game really just made everyone go along with Shepard’s decisions about their lives.  Just doesn’t sit well with me that those missions didn’t have any sort of risk in your decisions and that, as a result, Shepard becomes always right.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

While maybe not a good thing for a gamer, I wish Shepard had taken their death harder than ‘yeah, I died, but I’m okay now’.  It would have been cool to have a bit darker of a game in two, but, eh, what can you do?  Guess it’s probably something better for fics, anyways.

Bursts through your door. “HC you say?!” Ok then! Garrus is a huge fan of human cinema. Lord of the Rinds, Star Wars, Disney animated films. One of his favorite ways to relax is watching an old Earth vid with Jane and the twins. Every now and then he’ll quote them, too. “Damocles, I am your father.” It’s really corny and the ultimate “Dad” thing, but his family actually finds it funny.

This is an amazing HC. And actually pretty damn accurate. I never thought about him being a dork and quoting movies, but Garrus is a huge movie buff. Where Jane has creative outlets to entertain herself, he has movies. Sure, he likes to work with his hands, but there isn’t always the right time for it, so watching vids is his hobby in those times.

But I’m definitely using the quote thing. 😉

Tell me a random Headcanon!

Could be anything, for any species, or even about the story. Hell, doesn’t even have to be about Parable (but I’d love you forever if you do).

Feel free to go anon if you need. 😀

Assumptions: Given the quantity of your contributions to the ME fandom, I’d assumed that you looked down on newcomers. IDK why, just that you’ve had so so so much more time here than me and I felt kind of inadequate i guess? i don’t believe that to be true now, and you never really gave me a REASON to think that in the first place. Just the sheer volume was intimidating to me, but i know better now :)

My response is probably going to be long, but I think anyone who feels intimidated if this fandom from writers should know my opinion.

I absolutely hate writers who look down their nose at others, especially newcomers.  I know of some who do and think their word is The Word in the matter, and it’s an absolutely shit thing to do.  I encourage anyone that wants to write to get out there and write.  I’ll be the first to cheer them on because, guess what, my fics are just that, my view of the fandom universe.  It is nowhere near the only story that can be told and I think those who act like they do are only detrimental to the fandom.  Anyone can write and make these characters their own through their own individual perspective, even when it’s different from my own.  Do I hate if someone wants to use a character or HC?  Absolutely not, (I’m actually honored!) but disagreement is everyone’s right so long as it doesn’t turn into an argument about who’s right.  The fandom doesn’t need that.

My sheer amount of fics is really just because I’m an insomniac and had nothing to do on my late nights but to try and express my thoughts as a form of self-help.  Being bipolar, I often deal with both sides of the spectrum and often use writing Parable as a way to combat the inadequacy I feel being stuck home with a disability also caused by a past of ulcerated colitis or unable to control my emotions.  All that time to myself and need to release ended up in such a long series and it’s sort of just become like my baby because of its importance to me.  After all, I never even expected Parable to be anything more than silly little Juxtaposed when I first started out.

To tell the truth, I highly doubt Parable has much influence on the fandom since it was already well built before I came to the scene, but maybe that’s just a writer’s self-consciousness.  I really appreciate you, nonnie, and everyone else for helping me quiet that little voice with wonderful, heartfelt comments and wish I could better show you all.  Whoever you are, know that I love you and always have an open door to any writer, newcomer or established contributor.
