What’s your process for developing characters and plot/storyline? Do you use any sort of template to follow or do you let them develop naturally?

For characters, it differs between OCs and canon. Canon characters, I just make stuff up as I go since they’re so well developed in the games. I merely shape them to fit my universes.

For OCs, I usually just have a basic idea of their character. For instance, I started with Cassia being friendly, outgoing, and cheerful where Damocles is more withdrawn, brooding, and has an unhealthy relationship with his emotions. Everything else just comes as I write.

As for plot, I do much the same. Game story is mostly plotted out for me and I fill in the gaps with my personal touch and character development.

Original work usually starts as a problem and solution. Here’s a bad thing and here’s how the bad thing is fixed. Sometimes I don’t even have a solution, just problem.

I like to write in a linear fashion, but if I get an idea of something that might be cool to have sometime, I’ll jot it down. It’s usually something like ‘they go here and meet so and so’ or ‘and do this,’ but everything else is saved for when I get there. I never know how much will change before I get there, after all.

Thanks for the ask! It was fun to think about.
