Does anyone have any theories as to which Mass Effect species are able to successfully breed outside of their species? We know the asari have evolved to reproduce this way, but could the others do so through more traditional means?

Like, turians and humans are both viviparous, but would they be too different genetically to produce offspring? Krogan and turians seem to be more similar in biology, but krogan are oviviparous.

Another factor to consider is the advanced science in the series. Would that help with any attempts at cross species reproduction?

I’d say no, it’s virtually impossible because they all come from different evolutionary trees.

in the unlikely event it does happen, any offspring would likely be infertile

The Salarians have funded weirder projects to answer stranger questions than this I’m sure.

More than cross species, the dextro-levo thing would kill the baby because there’s no way for it to eat in the womb of a mother that is poisoned by the kind of food it needs.

I kinda headcanon that Turians and Quarians might be able to if Quarians’ immune systems were less fucked.

What about the Angara? Their diets are similar enough to humans’ and they are also viviparous, though i feel as though any individual pregnant with the cross-breed would need almost constant medical monitoring on the fetus through development.

We still fall in the matter of Incompatible genetics, and maybe fall into allergic reactions. For all we know the Angara have been designed only to mate with each other and have body fluids desintegrate in hostile environments

I may be talking out my ass, so probably don’t quote me, but I think I remember seeing something about scientifically trying to create hybrids was illegal? Idk, I might be projecting our current stance on that kind of thing.

I admit that I didn’t really think about adding that in because I didn’t think it’d happen in front of Jane or Garrus in order to be in their POV. I should come back to it though because it was a huge mix of emotions when they finally managed to talk about it. Ellie practically fell apart and even Arcanus showed emotion, though mostly hurt and anger. They didn’t make up completely right then and there, but they did manage to open up enough that he was willing to work with her while she worked for the Shadow Broker. It took some time after that for her to test the waters with some light talk and, from there, their affection rekindled. And it rekindled fast. It didn’t take long before they were right back where they left off.

Fibonacci Prince Garrus is a party boy in the beginning and definitely shows his young age. He’s calmed down a bit over the events leading to the Reapers, but he is well known in Palaven as being a guy with huge parties that often ended in some well needed clean up. He enjoys doing something wild and unexpected, feeling like he should just in preparation for when he has to take up for his dad one day. Although, honestly, I’m pretty sure he’ll still have some parties as a Primarch when and if he gets there (he kinda doesn’t want to and would rather his much calmer sister take over, lol)

I think you should ask what won’t he do for Jana. He falls for her immediately and falls hard, but he’s so damn awkward that he fumbles quite a bit around her. Once they get over the shaky start, though, he really showers her in anything and everything he thinks she might like, which is a bit of a challenge because she comes from an entirely different realm that seems to fantastic in comparison. It eventually gets to the point where Jana has to explain to him that it’s not the gifts she is happy to have, but the fact that he’s thinking of her. After everything she’s gone through with her own Garrus, it’s like falling in love all over again with a different person because the two Garruses share some traits, but not all.

Ellie and Saren actually spend time with hacking programs in a friendly competition of who can get through encryption faster and more efficiently than the other. It’s not really a mother/son thing that typical families do, but Ellie is trying to bond with an adult son that she doesn’t share a whole lot in common with merely because he hasn’t really shown any interest outside of work. Everyone who cares about Saren are trying their damnest to open him up and show him life is more than just work, but it takes time. (hint: It’ll happen more in Efflux ;))

Garrus and Cassia actually spend a lot of time together. Since she was a kid, she shared a lot more in common with her dad than mom. Not that she doesn’t get along with Jane and have things they share, but just that she shares interests with Garrus more. He likes to build things and she built a knack for it over time, so when they’re together, they are often working on something. I’m sure he’s probably picked up a sand buggie or two to work on with her. If that’s not around, sometimes they just like to sit out in the sun and read. That’s Cassia’s favorite.

Yes, James and Sol have had sex where Garrus was all too aware that’s what they were doing. In fact, it’s happened more than once. Thankfully he didn’t walk into it or anything, but more than likely smelled the two of them just before they make it obvious they were leaving the room to do the do. He wouldn’t act like a human would at seeing his sister having sex, oh no. More like he’d be exasperated that they had to do it where he was going to walk in.
