I know. It isn’t my favorite either. It’s…. I don’t know how to put it into words.

But the symbiote evolved a bit with Flash Thompson and the whole Space Knight arc. Became more… talkative. (Or at least was portrayed as having more of a personality. It’s personality was never touched on a lot before.)

Eddie could live without the symbiote, yes, and he did for a time, but he didn’t do well. Every time he was separated from it, his goal was always to get back to it. (I’m ignoring the 2000 Eddie who sold the symbiote and found God because that arc was dumb.)

I think they (Eddie & the symbiote) became codependent. The symbiote has had other hosts, but always found it’s way back to Eddie, and Eddie… the symbiote was the only one he had when he was ostracized. They depended on each other, lived with each other for years, shared a hatred of Spider-Man, learned to let that hate go, and grew together.

The ‘love’ thing is obsessive. You’re right. I don’t know why the writers put that in. I always saw them as partners, best friends, two pieces of a whole. There is the broken & healing Eddie and the broken & healing symbiote and together, they create Venom.

But the writers go for what will sell most, and I guess they thought the ‘love’ bit would work. Lots of new fans don’t know Eddie’s backstory, lots of them won’t bother with learning it or hunting down the old comics. And with the Movie out, lots of them will just switch to that.

Basics:

• Turians don‘t sweat
• Mouths are mostly dry (due to gap in jaw), so less chance of „morning breath“
• Same as with humans, their talons, both on the hands and the feet, have to be filed at regular intervals unless they’re being shortened naturally through manual labour or walking barefoot
• Their hide can flake if getting too dry or if they’re malnourished or have skin conditions such as atopic eczema, which shows as discoloration, inflammation and flaking around the edges of the plates
• Plates: Made of two layers (inspired by THIS AWESOME POST, my fave so far). A thin, slightly waxy top layer (similar to the cere on budgie noses), underneath are layers of the actual plates. The top plate layers and cere renew slowly, like human skin, unless injuries run too deep, in which case scars and gashes remain

Daily beauty care:

• Since they don’t sweat, turians will usually dry-brush unless very dirty
• In prehistoric times, they sandbathed
• Daily showers or baths are uncommon, simply because the water spray can get into their mouths and that’s uncomfortable. Steam showers are used on spaceships as they use way less water than regular showers. Public bathing and lounging in shallow thermal waters is however a popular pastime, similar to spas or Japanese onsen
• Since turian mouths are mostly dry, oral care is done by an enzyme toothy tab dissolved on the tongue to break down bacteria/ get rid of bad breath and a tongue scraper, plus little sponges (similar to Dentips) to dislodge any buildup on teeth if needed
• Possible crusts/discharge from eyes or nose are removed with a cloth and a little unscented plain oil or water
• Colony markings are semi-permanent and redone every few years, but if they start to fade or get blotchy before that time, turians might choose to do daily touch-ups before getting them redone at a specialized place
• For dry-brushing, they use a set of brushes for different body parts: One each for face, body, hide, sometimes a small brush for in between the plates, and a soft buffing brush (it‘s a huge beauty industry!)
• A quick morning brushing starts with the stiffer body brush, then hide, then face, finishing with a buffing brush to make the plates shine
• For additional shine and for keeping both the cere and hide hydrated and to avoid rough patches/ flaking, skin oil is used (often scented, but some prefer odorless oil) and applied with a cloth as last step of the beauty regimen.
• When done efficiently, this takes maybe ten minutes, but depending on the individual and their vanity, morning brushing can take a lot of time
• Brushing and oiling each other is considered intimate, and couples often preen and brush each other as a bonding ritual and shared relaxation

Me: Phenethylamine, the hormone which Venom needs to survive, is produced by the bacteria lactobacillus. Which is one of the main components of the vaginal microbiota.

Friend: You can’t be serious.

Me: So Venom going down makes a lot of sense.
