Rose gives birth two months later – welcoming a healthy baby girl to the
family, a daughter with big blue eyes that they name Emma.

She’s immediately the most spoiled baby in Cipritine, receiving gifts
and affection from everyone her family has touched – if there’s a safer child
on Palaven, Lily would be surprised.

Emma’s mere presence is a delight, even when she’s throwing tantrums or
screaming as babies do – because she’s a miracle, really. A product of love
between two vastly different species, made possible through science.

And it makes Lily realize that hey, maybe someday…

A thought that’s put on hold by the arrival of the Reapers.
